Bryan PD Drug Bust

The Brazos County Commissioners Court is hosting two public hearings Tuesday morning. The first at 8:30am to discuss the county’s $482,336,738 budget. The second meeting at 9:15am will discuss the proposed property tax rate of 44.84 cents per $100 valuation. If the tax rate is adopted, it will be an increase of 3.43 percent over the current rate. However, residents may actually pay less in taxes for the year, because the median home price in Brazos County has dropped from $412,000 to $340,000 dollars. That home owner would pay about $200 less in taxes to Brazos County for the year. Regular session is scheduled to begin at 10:00am where the court is expected to adopt the budget and tax rate. A search of arrest records for Friday, August 28 – Sunday August 30, 2026 revealed 26 alcohol related arrests. 9 DWIs/DWI-related arrests, 16 public intoxication arrests, and 1 case of furnishing alcohol to a minor arrest. 20 arrests were in/near the Northgate Entertainment District. 14 of the 26 alcohol related arrests involve a defendant UNDER the age of 21. One person was killed after a fiery wreck in Grimes County late Sunday. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the initial crash between a pickup and a car happened around 11:15pm Sunday night. Investigations show that a truck traveling westbound on SH 30 near FM 244 in Grimes County crossed into the eastbound lanes and collided with a 1972 Dodge Polara sedan driven by 59-year-old Charles Keil, of Willis. Keil was pronounced dead at the scene. A motorcyclist traveling westbound did not have enough time to react to the crash and collided with the Dodge sedan. He was transported to a College Station hospital in stable condition. The Iola Volunteer Fire Department says the pickup was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived and the driver had managed to escape, but not before suffering severe burns. He was transported via Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston in stable condition. Investigators had SH 30 was closed until just after 5:00am Monday morning.
