Bryan Man Dies In Single Vehicle Crash On South Texas

From the Bryan police department:

On October 30, 2016 at 2:30 a.m. officers responded to the 1100 block of S. Texas Ave for a single car accident.

A red Ford Ranger was traveling north in the outside lane of the 1100 block of S. Texas Ave.

The driver failed to control speed in a curve and lost control striking a concrete utility pole.

The driver was the only occupant and did not wear his seat belt causing him to be ejected. The driver was deceased on scene.

The accident also caused power lines to break and fall into the roadway. The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours.

At this time it is unknown if alcohol played a factor in the accident.

The deceased has been identified as Jose Julian Valdez Martinez age 25 of Bryan

During this investigation a patrol vehicle which was blocking the roadway was struck by a suspected drunk driver. The driver, Richard Allen Castle age 40 of Bryan, was arrested for DWI and resisting arrest.

Castle was driving southbound in the 1000 block of S. Texas Ave and struck the driver side door of a marked police unit utilizing its emergency lights blocking the accident scene and live electrical wire across the roadway. The patrol officer was out of his vehicle investigating the original fatality scene.
