The 69th time a Bryan man has been booked in the Brazos County jail, he’s accused of trying to steal $1,400 dollars of copper wire at two in the morning from a BTU power plant.

Weather conditions included a wind chill of 29 degrees at the time 46 year old Elijah Bass III was on the grounds of the Atkins Street power plant.

According to the Bryan police arrest report, Bass was being watched on live video by security personnel as officers were surrounding the property.

After an officer saw Bass throw two spools of wire over the fence, the suspect was taken into custody.

Five more spools of wire were found, along with a bolt cutter that is believed to cut the copper as well as barbed wire fencing.

Bass, whose first booking at the county jail was in February 1990, is being held on bonds totaling $35,000 dollars.

Two years ago…according to online records…Bass was sentenced to 12 months after pleading guilty to stealing copper, brass, or aluminum from Bryan Iron and Metal.
