Bryan ISD Superintendent Has Been On Personal Leave Since September 20

Bryan school district superintendent Tommy Wallis has been on personal leave since September 20 at his request.

That was among the information given by school board president Doug Wunneburger after the board ended a 4.5 hour executive session Wednesday night to discuss the superintendent’s contract.

Dr. Wunneburger did not answer other questions about the private discussion because it’s a personnel item.

Wunneburger gave the same answer when he was asked what Bryan ISD parents and students should be told about Dr. Wallis’s absence.

Wunneburger says deputy superintendent Tim Rocka is in charge during Wallis’s leave.

Dr. Rocka participated in the closed door meeting with the six board members, the district’s in-house lawyer, and outside counsel.

Wunneburger would not say whether Wallis participated in the executive session by phone or online.

The board took no action, and the next opportunity for the board to resume discussing the superintendent’s contract is Monday at their regularly scheduled noon meeting.

Wallis has not responded to requests for comment about his absence.
