Here is his biography from the Tommy Bosquez for Bryan School Board Facebook page:

Tommy was born in Bryan, the sixth of seven children, and the first in his family to attend college and earn a college degree. He grew up and attended Bryan schools, graduating from Bryan High School in 1980. Following graduation, Tommy attended Blinn College – Brenham on a scholarship graduating in 1982 with his Associate of Arts degree. After Blinn, he enrolled in and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1989 and a Masters in Public Administration in 1995 from Texas A&M University.

While attending Texas A&M, Tommy proudly served with the City of Bryan Police Department from 1982 to 1989. He joined the force as a police officer and rose through the ranks earning the designation of Advance Peace Officer, Crime Scene Officer and Field Training Officer. As a training officer, Tommy was responsible for providing new officers with continuous supervision, training and assistance. He also evaluated their abilities under real life interaction with the public and in crisis situations.

In 1989, Tommy had the opportunity to begin his career in higher education when he joined The Texas A&M University System Human Resources Department. Later, in 1991, he moved over to the College of Medicine to help initiate the establishment of the Center of Excellence as the Special Programs Coordinator directing in-depth pre-medical bridge and summer enrichment programs through the Department of Student Affairs. His efforts led to the award of an $883,000 grant to collaborate with Bryan ISD, CSISD, Blinn College, Texas A&M and surrounding county health care agencies to encourage youth to consider pursuing careers in the health professions.

In 1995, Tommy was appointed to the Texas A&M College of Medicine faculty as a lecturer in the Department of Humanities in Medicine, where he taught courses in medical ethics, leadership in medicine, medical Spanish and cultural competency in health care. By 1997, Tommy was promoted to the position of Special Assistant to the Dean of Medicine and then later in 1999 as Special Assistant to the President at the Texas A&M Health Science Center. In this role, he was responsible for performing administrative work for the President in the area of special initiatives and community relations, serving as the liaison to local and state agencies and community-based organizations.

In 2004, Tommy accepted the opportunity to help build the administration of the Texas A&M Health Science Center by creating the Department of Procurement Services and Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) operations. In 2007, he was promoted to Director for Contract Administration while continuing to oversee procurement services and HUB operations. His willingness to take on new challenges in contracts helped the Health Science Center succeed in reducing costs, improving workflow and productivity, and improved record-keeping, leading to improved efficiency. HUB operations have continued to achieve top ranking among health-related institutions in percentage of qualifying expenditures awarded to “Historically Underutilized Business” (HUB) firms.

Tommy and his wife, Stella Grimaldo, have two children. Courtney (21) graduated with honors from Bryan High School in 2009 and now attends Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. Kimberly (16), an honor society student, currently attends Bryan High School.

Statement from Bryan ISD Superintendent Tommy Wallis on the passing of Bryan ISD Board of Trustees Vice President Tommy Bosquez:

“It is with considerable sadness that we learned today about the passing of Board Vice President Tommy Bosquez. Our deepest sympathies are with his wife and children. My family and I pray for their healing and peace during this time of grief.

Mr. Bosquez was elected to the board in November 2012, and he undertook his duties with a strong sense of commitment. He was eager to serve on any board committee, including most recently the district’s Building Committee, and he always brought his well-organized and deliberate thought process to table.

Mr. Bosquez was a devoted husband and father, deeply committed to children and to educational excellence. I respect his courage to face any challenge and his commitment to his faith and family.

We will miss his thoughtful manner, his warm smile and his intelligent sense of humor. Bryan ISD and the children we educate are better by every measure because Mr. Bosquez chose to serve.”
