Bryan ISD Board Approves Design Of SFA Annex Renovation If Voters Support November’s Bond Issue

The Bryan school board continues to move ahead with plans if voters approve a $175 million dollar bond issue on November 3rd.

The four board members attending the October 5 meeting approved the design of renovating the Stephen F. Austin school annex.

The board was told the annex exterior will look like the remainder of the SFA renovation and expansion that was approved by voters in 2014.

Consulting architect James Halliburton says there will be a complete demolition of the annex interior. One of the reasons is saving money when a fire sprinkler system is installed.

There will be five new classrooms on the first floor and six on the second floor.

The renovation includes a dance floor and a changing room.

The proposed project also includes new restrooms on both floors, along with a teacher workroom and restroom on the second floor.

The BISD board will consider later this month, the process of selecting the general contractor. Again subject to voters approving the bond issue, the board was asked to consider selecting a construction manager at risk and not selecting a general contractor based on submitting bids.
