Bryan ISD has announced the creation of a second community outreach officer.
Sam Rayburn intermediate school principal Justin Smith will start his new position at the start of the new school year.
News release from Bryan ISD:
Bryan ISD is excited to announce Rayburn Intermediate School Principal Justin Smith will transition into a new, community driven position for the 2019-2020 school year.
Smith will take over as the district’s second Community Outreach Officer, joining Dr. Hugo Ibarra.
Smith is the perfect person for this important role. From Bryan, he is a graduate of Bryan High School who returned home to teach in his home school district. He then advanced into administrative roles, where he worked closely with parents and community partners.
Smith is already heavily involved in the community. A recipient of a Habitat for Humanity home as a child, he currently serves on the Board of Directors for Bryan/College Station Habitat for Humanity. He also serves as Vice President for the Brazos Valley Alliance of Black School Educators, and has volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club for the past four years.
“I am excited to take on a community driven role because true success for students is ignited through a relationship between the schools and community,” Smith said. “As I have heard my Pastor say many times, ‘Life moves at the speed of relationships.’ I know through the outreach opportunities I have had the great fortune to be involved with, that, it’s not about a hand out, it is however about providing a hand up. I look forward to making a lasting impact on our community through making a positive difference in the lives of the students in our community.”
Justin is married and has three children, and takes great honor in serving at Skybreak Church.
Smith will remain his role as principal at Rayburn through the end of the school year, where he is committed to finishing the year strong and helping students succeed. The search for a new principal at the school will begin immediately.
