The Bryan city council at its last meeting without discussion approved rezoning for student housing near Northgate and taking another step towards the possible purchase of the former TxDOT district offices.
The student housing project is divided by the B/CS city limits. Nicknamed the “Sterling A&M Project”, developers had the proper zoning in College Station, while zoning changes were approved by Bryan’s planning and zoning commission and city council. Located west of Boyett and south of Natalie, the College Station side of the development includes an eight story parking garage and a seven story apartment building. On the Bryan side, one three story building with 54 units will replace six 35 year old four-plexes that will be demolished.

As for the former TxDOT district property on Texas south of Highway 21, the state has reduced the asking price from $1.4 to $1 million dollars. Before making a formal offer, the council wants a second environmental review of the 11 acre site. The council is interested in the property for development and what staff called other opportunities in north Bryan.
