Bryan Council Terminates Contract to Buy Briarcrest CC

The Bryan City Council voted 7-0 Tuesday to terminate the contract to purchase Briarcrest Country Club.

The council’s decision follows voters in November rejecting the removal of the parkland designation from the city’s municipal golf course and saying no to buying Briarcrest.

The city will be reimbursed $40,000 of the earnest money paid last month to Briarcrest, while the country club keeps $10,000.

The mayor and four of the six council members offered comments before the vote.

Comments from Councilwoman Ann Horton, who made the motion.

Comments from Councilman Chuck Konderla, who seconded the motion.

Comments from Councilman Paul Madison.

Comments from Councilman Mike Southerland, who asked but received no support for staff to do an analysis of the financial condition of Briarcrest and the cost to repair the city’s municipal golf course.

Comments from Mayor Jason Bienski.
