Bryan Council Supports Proposed Grant Process To Receive Hotel Tax Money

Event organizers wanting some of the $403,000 dollars expected to be collected next year from Bryan’s hotel occupancy tax will become more accountable.

A new policy developed by staff and the Convention and Visitors Bureau was given the green light Tuesday by the City Council.

Deputy City Manager Joey Dunn says the “Event Grant Policy” was patterned after one used in Huntsville.

Dunn says there would be an application process where proposals would be reviewed by the CVB and final decisions were made by the council.

Recipients would be required to file a post-event report and agree to an outside audit.

Dunn also suggested it also be applied to city-sponsored events.
