The Bryan city council has given preliminary approval to the 2020 fiscal year budget.
This week’s 4-1 vote followed about one hour of comments during and after a public hearing, where nine speakers were split on proceeding with the superpark.
Four opponents to the location included the Rio Brazos Audubon Society’s Sandy Dillard.
A downtown property owner, Charles Mancuso, said the money should go to previously identified projects and repairs.
Five speakers supporting the superpark included representatives of four organizations, including Royce Hickman of the chamber of commerce.
Another supporter was neighborhood businessowner Barry Ivins of Carney’s on South College.
The council’s lone no vote, from Mike Southerland, was due in part to not having enough financial information before issuing $58 million dollars in bonds.
The council majority supported what has been provided by city staff.
