Bryan Council Gets Parks Update

The Bryan city council gave no clear direction on where to locate future skateparks, a superpark, and/or an expansion of the Bryan Regional Athletic Complex (BRAC).

That’s after staff recommendations earlier this month to add 15 ballfields at BRAC on existing city owned land, replace the skateboard facility at Williamson Park, and at Sue Haswell Park convert the Lions baseball fields to a skate park.

Deputy City Manager Hugh Walker says they’ve been working to relocate baseball teams from the Haswell fields should the council want to go in that direction. Walker says the Lions Club, which operates two of the fields, has been contacted along with area Little League organizations.

As for the superpark, Bryan staff reported was working with College Station on amending state law to expand how hotel occupancy tax money can be spent in order to build large athletic facilities where hotels and other amenities can be located.
