Bryan City Council Adjusts Dates Of Municipal Judge Appointments With A Day To Spare

With a day to spare, the Bryan city council decides how to proceed with the appointment of the city’s presiding municipal judge.

A special meeting last Thursday included changing appointment dates and terms to abide with new state laws.

The council had until Friday because that was the last day of the presiding judge’s term.

The unanimous vote followed two discussions behind closed doors. Mayor Andrew Nelson says the executive sessions were held to get legal advice since evaluations of the four city judges includes the length of their terms.

The council extended the term of the presiding judge and two associate judge through this November first and the term of a third associate judge through November of next year.

The council also had the option of lengthening terms to four years, but decided to keep the term at two years.
