Bryan And College Station School Boards Take Action On Teachers Who Abandon Contracts

The new school year in Bryan and College Station ISD’s also included school board action against teachers who abandoned their contracts.

Unanimous votes were issued to notify the Texas Education Agency of two teachers in each district leaving after the deadline to resign without being penalized.

This week’s Bryan and College Station school board meetings included unanimous votes to notify the state about four teachers who abandoned their contracts. That means they will not be able to get a job where state certification is required.

The recommendation from Bryan ISD’s human resources director Carol Cune was followed by comments from superintendent Christie Whitbeck and board member Julie Harlin.

There were no additional comments from College Station administrators or board members before or after the motion and vote, which followed executive session discussion behind closed doors.

But a memo from CSISD’s chief administrative officer stated the teachers who left to work for another school within CSISD’s boundaries “are critical positions and are very difficult to fill.”

Three of the four were dual language teachers; two in CSISD and one in BISD. The fourth taught English language arts in BISD.

Three of the four told administrators they accepted new positions.

None of the teachers attended the board meetings.
