Brazos Valley Food Bank Receives Nearly $6,000 From Restaurant Week

The Madisonville City Council has established several new City Council Advisory Committees to encourage community involvement and input on city initiatives and projects. They are accepting applications from residents interested in serving on these committees. It’s your opportunity to contribute your knowledge, experience, and ideas to help shape the future of Madisonville. Parks and Beautification Committee: serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council by providing recommendations on matters relating to the development, improvement, and enhancement of City of Madisonville parks, green spaces, landscaping, beautification projects, and sports fields. The committee promotes community involvement and helps identify opportunities to improve the quality, attractiveness, and enjoyment of public spaces for residents and visitors. The initial members of the Parks and Beautification Committee shall develop and adopt bylaws to establish the committee’s organization, meeting procedures, officer positions, and operating guidelines, subject to applicable city policies and ordinances. Streets and Traffic Safety Committee: serves as an advisory role to the City Council by reviewing matters relating to street conditions, traffic flow, pedestrian safety, signage, parking, and transportation concerns. This committee provides recommendations to council aimed at improving accessibility, mobility for residents, businesses, and visitors, and roadway safety while helping to identify and prioritize the community’s transportation needs. The initial members of the Streets and Traffic Safety Committee shall develop and adopt bylaws to establish the committee’s organization, meeting procedures, officer positions, and operating guidelines, subject to applicable city policies and ordinances.  Home and Business Facade Improvement Committee: serves as an advisory role to the City Council by promoting the enhancement and preservation of residential and commercial property exteriors throughout the community. The committee encourages beautification efforts and provides recommendations to support attractive, safe, and well-maintained properties that contribute to community pride, economic development, and neighborhood vitality. The initial members of the Home & Business Facade Improvement Committee shall develop and adopt bylaws to establish the committee’s organization, meeting procedures, officer positions, and operating guidelines, subject to applicable city policies and ordinances.  The application deadline is September 10, 2026. According to arrest records received from CSPD, UPD, BPD, and BCSO, there were a total of 28 arrests on opening day of the Texas A&M Football season Saturday involving alcohol or not. These were calculated between 12:00 pm Saturday, September 5 and 5:00am Sunday, September 6, 2026. The Bryan City Council is scheduled to hold four public hearings at Tuesday’s City Council Meeting. The meeting will convene at 5:30pm inside council chambers at 300 Texas Ave, Bryan, TX 77803. The first three hearings will be rezoning items. The fourth will discuss the proposed tax rate of $0.624 per $100 of a home’s value. The rezoning items are: 600 Woodson Drive (2.21 acres of vacant land adjoining the north side of Woodson Drive between College Main and Oaklawn Streets). Amend the previously-approved Planned Development District to revise the concept drawings and physical development standards. 1.05 acres of vacant land at the southwest corner of Tabor Road and Siegert Drive, being Lots 6 through 8 in Block 2 of the Siegert Subdivision. Change the zoning classification from Residential District to Multi-Family Residential. 2.208 acres of land out of the Maria Kegan Survey, Abstract No. 28, adjoining the northeast side of State Highway 30, 850 feet to 1,080 feet southeast of its intersection with G. Rollie White Road. Change the zoning classification from Agricultural – Open District to Commercial District. There is an item on the consent/automatic approval agenda that is particularly interesting. Agenda Item P is an amendment to increase the FY 2026 budget by $32,050,000 ($548,670,400 to $580,720,400). The documents show that the city needs to add the $32-million in unbudgeted expenses for items such as: $7-million on employee benefits, $7-million on BTU-rural, and $10-million on the American Rescue Plan Act Fund.
