Brazos Valley Food Bank Receives Large Donation from HEB

The Brazos Valley Food Bank was notified earlier this week about a large donation arriving from H-E-B on Wednesday morning.

Theresa Mangapora, Executive Director, says the 20 palettes of turkey and ham weighed in around 22,000 pounds.

“Protein is expensive, protein is something that everyone wants. We don’t get it donated as much, but it is really great to balance out anyone’s diet, to have fresh produce and nice protein,” said Mangapora.

Mangapora said accepting this large of a donation would not have been possible in their old location, which has smaller freezer space.

“We would have had to turn this down, or at least just said can we have a portion of the donation, before we were in this building,” said Mangapora.

Mangapora said with a donation this size also comes the need of volunteers, and when the college students leave for the holiday break, there can be a shortage.

“We are so grateful for that source of volunteers, but sometimes we have a gap and over the Christmas holidays is one of them,” said Mangapora.
