The Brazos Valley Bombers dropped Game 1 of their first-round TCL playoff series against the San Antonio Flying Chanclas last night, 9-3.
The Brazos Valley took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but fell behind for good following a Marcos Villegas grand slam in the top of the second.
Game 2 of the best-of-three series is tonight at 7:05 in San Antonio with broadcast on Zone 1150 AM & 93.7 FM.
The city of College Station closed five soccer fields at Veterans Park after they were damaged by feral hogs. Since then, emergency repairs have been made to prepare the fields for a tournament this coming weekend (August 24-25) that will draw more than 100 teams. After the tournament, is the scheduled start of regular league use. The city council on Thursday (August 22) approved a contract to spend nearly $150,000 dollars from the parks and recreation budget. The contract said repairs were scheduled to start August 12 and supposed to be completed by August 22. As for the hogs, city staff contacted the local parks and wildlife game warden for assistance. Councilmembers pointed out that irrigating the repaired fields uses recycled water. And in response to a council question, parks and recreation director Kelsey Heiden said city employees are working to restripe all the fields. The Wickson Creek special utility district announced Thursday, the return of mandatory water restrictions. Wickson Creek’s stage one restrictions means limited outdoor watering for about 9,200 customers. That includes no outdoor irrigation between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. and outdoor irrigation between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on designated days. A news release from Brazos County announces a mistake in the list of early voting locations for this November’s general election will be corrected at the next county commission meeting. Elections administrator Trudy Hancock says a student caught the omission of Texas A&M’s memorial student center (MSC) as an early voting location. Hancock says commissioners will amend the election order adding the MSC and deleting College Station city hall as an early voting location. Voter registration for the November 5th election continues through October 7th. Hancock says sample ballots won’t be ready until the Texas secretary of state submits names of state and federal candidates. She says the state won’t release that information until August 29th. News release from Brazos County: Brazos County elections officials have been made aware of a mistake in the Order for the November 5, 2024 General and Special Election and are correcting the oversight. The Order, which was adopted by Brazos County commissioners during the August 13, 2024 regular meeting, listed College Station City Hall as an early voting location, but did not list the Memorial Student Center on the Texas A&M campus. This was simply a case of human error. The August 27, 2024 regular meeting of commissioners court will address this mistake and offer an amended order to remove College Station City Hall and replace it with the Memorial Student Center. “I am so thankful to the student who reached out to me for clarification on this issue, “ said Brazos County Elections Administrator Trudy Hancock. “Even with all of the people who proof-read the order, no one caught the mistake. He was professional and courteous in bringing it to our attention. I encourage anyone with elections questions to always feel free to contact our office.” Hancock says this will not affect early voting in any way.
