News release from Brazos County:
Brazos County officials are pleased to announce Dr. Jennifer Dierksen, M.D., has accepted the offer to serve as the first Director of Forensic Services in Brazos County. Dierksen has served as a Deputy Medical Examiner in Travis County since 2018, and was an Associate Medical Examiner in Jacksonville, Florida prior to that.
Although she currently lives and works in Austin, Dierksen is no stranger to Aggieland. She graduated from Texas A&M University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, and then from the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine in Bryan in 2012 as a Doctor of Medicine.
“My experience at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine sparked an interest in forensic pathology with enthusiastic instructors who encourage hands-on learning,” Dierksen said. “I’m looking forward to being able to offer that same experience to college and medical students as part of my work in the future.”
Dierksen said she had been following the possibility of a Brazos County Medical Examiner office since 2014. She was intrigued by the idea of being the first Aggie to come back and serve the community in this manner.
“We are looking forward to having Dr. Dierksen join our team in Brazos County,” said Acting County Judge Kyle Kacal. “Her experience in forensic pathology and her interest in our community combine to make her a natural choice as the person to get this new office up and running, and then to serve the needs of Brazos County and surrounding areas well into the future.”
Dierksen is scheduled to start work in Brazos County in February 2026. The current title of Director of Forensic Services is anticipated to transition to Medical Examiner after the office is officially open, and the commissioners court takes formal action to divest the justices of the peace of their duties to conduct inquests.
The Medical Examiner’s Office is scheduled to be substantially completed in June 2026 and open for business shortly thereafter.
