A Brazos County district court jury took less than 30 minutes to find a Bryan man guilty of his fifth DWI.

According to the district attorney’s office, the trial judge sentenced 42 year old Martin Ybarra to 25 years in prison.

In December 2018, Ybarra’s family reported he drank between 12 and 15 beers. That’s before Bryan police responded to a 9-1-1 call from a stepdaughter reporting he was drunk and things were getting out of control.

Ybarra was arrested after leading BPD officers on a chase that ended in a parking lot.

Ybarra’s blood alcohol level was just over twice the legal limit at .162.

The punishment range was 25 years to life.

The DA’s office did not seek a specific amount of time. Prosecutors sought punishment “to protect the community instead of attempting to rehabilitate” Ybarra.
