It’s been nearly five and a half years since a multimillion dollar civil lawsuit was filed in Brazos County district court involving Allen Academy and a former board member.
On Wednesday, a jury returned its verdict following a trial lasting one and a half weeks and a court file containing more than 9,000 pages of documents.
Ten jurors, the minimum required in a civil action, awarded Jerry Bullin almost $2.9 million dollars plus five percent interest.
The jury ruled Bullin gave the private school monetary advances that were supposed to be repaid.
Allen Academy argued the four agreements made with Bullin between June 2010 and May 2012 were charitable contributions.
The jury also ruled that Bullin breached his fiduciary duties regarding the construction of the academy’s gymnasium. That will reduce the total award to the former board member by $300,000 dollars plus interest.

The lawyer representing Allen Academy, Wayne Rife, says the litigation process will continue.
The trial judge will consider arguments over attorney fees on February 3.
