A Bryan man has been found guilty for his part in a murder that took place in November 2022.

After a Brazos County district court jury convicted 23 year old Armando Mejia, the jury sentenced him to 22 years in prison. The punishment range is five years to life. Prosecutors sought a sentence of 50 years to life.

The jury also assessed a fine of $5,900 dollars. A spokeswoman in the district attorney’s office says that will go to the state of Texas and not to anyone related to the victim.

Mejia still faces a trial on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for gunfire directed at the brother of the murder victim. The DA’s spokeswoman says they are consulting with the brother to determine if that trial will take place.

Also facing a trial on charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is 26 year old Preston Thurmon of Bryan.
