As administrators at Texas A&M University collect proposals that could lead to outsourcing several hundred non-teaching jobs, comes opposition from the Brazos County Democratic Party executive committee.
Chairwoman Maggie Charleton says a special meeting will be held Monday to consider a formal resolution.
Charleton referred to the Texas Democratic Party Platform, which states “Now more than ever, hard-working Texans need good jobs to support their families and invest in their retirement future. … Democrats are working to address the unemployment crisis by creating jobs for skilled workers. Republican policies, on the other hand, have cut and outsourced jobs, which is another reason we face tough economic times.”
Charleton wants to know what else was considered by administrators besides outsourcing, and she calls on them “to go back to the drawing board and look for other options” for reducing costs.
Monday’s meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Bryan at 307 S. Main Street, #102. Charleton says the meeting is open to the public.
Maggie Charleton visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
