Brazos County voters have at least one special question to decide during this November’s election.

County commissioners Nancy Berry and Steve Aldrich thanked those responsible for passing state legislation providing for the referendum, giving voters the opportunity to decide whether to increase vehicle registration fees ten dollars a year.

If voters approve, the money would go towards Brazos County highway projects approved by the new regional mobility authority, or RMA.

At last count, Brazos County had more than 161,000 vehicles.

Raising the vehicle registration fee would give the RMA more than $1.6 million dollars a year.

House Bill (HB) 1698 passed the Texas House with Senate amendments by a 94-48 vote and the state senate by a 26-4 margin.
