Brazos County commissioners are looking at the state legislature raising local vehicle registration fees by ten dollars to help pay for future transportation projects. This week’s meeting included passing a resolution endorsing HB 642. Based on more than 157,000 registered vehicles in Brazos County, that would give a proposed regional mobility authority more than $1.5 million dollars a year.
Also at this week’s meeting, commissioners officially opposed state legislation which would allow for the unrestricted sale of fireworks in the unincorporated areas of the county. Commissioner Steve Aldrich is concerned about the added burden HB 2748 would place on first responders in rural areas.
