Brazos County Commissioners Deny A Second Tax Refund Request And Approve A Third Request

For the second consecutive week, Brazos County commissioners denied a request to refund penalties and interest for a late property tax payment.

Last week, it was because the postmark was after the January 31st deadline.

This week, a refund request of more than $5,000 dollars was turned down after county judge Duane Peters said there was no evidence that the envelope was addressed to the tax office.

A second refund request, which had nothing to do with the envelope, was approved. Judge Peters said the appraisal district did not send notification of new ownership to the tax office when the property was purchased last year.

The second refund request was for more than $860 dollars.
