It’s been two years since a busy south Brazos County road was closed.
During the last county commission meeting, approval was given to pay two landowners a combined $28,000 dollars to buy land that’s required to rebuild I & GN Road between Graham Road and Capstone Drive.
The purchase followed the county filing an eminent domain lawsuit earlier this year.
Brazos County judge Duane Peters and county engineer Prarthana Banerji say construction could start in 60 days, after the project goes out for bids and commissioners select a contractor.
The road was closed after a crack was seen in the pavement along a guardrail next to an 18 foot ditch, and the ground behind the guardrail fell around one and a half feet.
Peters says the purchase price was near what the county offered before filing the lawsuit.
The sales price was determined by a three member panel of “special commissioners”.
