
On April 15th, Brazos County takes over control of the downtown Bryan parking garage from the Brazos Transit District (BTD).
During the March 18th county commission meeting, unanimous approval was given to a $40,000 budget amendment related to the garage.
Budget officer Nina Payne responded to a citizen’s question about the reason for the amendment. Payne said this was for estimated operating expenses.
Payne also said there may be another budget amendment after the county assumes control.

In 2008, commissioners agreed to donate the land where BTD built the Roy Kelly parking garage, which opened in October 2011.
In January 2025, the commission agreed to a lease to operate the garage that expires December 31, 2044. The 2008 agreement called for BTD to transfer ownership of the garage
Commissioners were scheduled March 25th to hold a workshop that the agenda said was to discuss the status of leased parking spaces as part of a general discussion of the county taking control of the garage.
