Brazos County commissioners follow action taken by the Bryan city council last week to unanimously approve property tax breaks for a $110 million dollar expansion at Axis Pipe and Tube in north Bryan.
Commissioner Chuck Konderla, who was on the Bryan council when Axis came to town in 2014, said Axis is building the largest steel manufacturing facility on the continent, with 16 acres under the same roof.
Acting county judge Kyle Kacal said “When we embark on economic development, you want to partner with a group that exceeds all expectations, and they (Axis) continue to do that daily and we are glad to be in partnership.”
When completed, the project will add an annual payroll of four million dollars.

Original story, December 10 2025:
A Mexico based manufacturer who expanded to Bryan in 2013 is now the city’s largest property taxpayer.
And the Bryan city council at its December regular meeting unanimously approved giving Axis Pipe and Tube city owned land and property tax breaks for a $110 million dollar expansion that will add $4 million dollars a year to its payroll.
Axis has 18 months to start construction and five years to complete the project.
The incentive package was explained by the senior advisor in the city’s economic development office, Todd McDaniel.
Representing Axis at the council meeting was engineering manager Jesus Soberon.
Current employment is 350, and in 2025 the nearly $277 million dollar facility generated city property tax revenue of over $1.7 million dollars.
