A proclamation was issued at this week’s Brazos County commission meeting (June 4) recognizing June as elder abuse awareness month.
The proclamation read by county judge Duane Peters says in Texas during 2023, there were more than 120,000 reports of abuse involving older adults and residents with disabilities.
The local supervisor with Texas adult protective services, Marquesha Lamar, thanked commissioners for raising awareness and thanked first responders, partners in the judicial system, and others who work to keep elders safe.
