Brazos County commissioners join the Bryan city council in giving property tax breaks for the expansion of a local manufacturer.
The county board without public comment approved before Christmas, an economic development agreement benefitting the Honeywell electronics chemical plant on Mumford Road.
The county’s agreement says this will allow Honeywell to produce something called “ultra high purity hydrofluoric acid”.
This would be the first plant of its kind in the United States to produce a semiconductor grade of this type of acid.
Like the city, the county approved a five year agreement giving Honeywell a 50 percent abatement on the value of the expansion.
The county is requiring Honeywell to increase payroll by $909,000 dollars starting in the year 2027.
The Bryan council was told the expansion will create 10 to 12 jobs.
