Brazos County Commission Denies A Property Owner’s Request To Refund $214 In Late Fees And Penalties

It took two weeks for a Brazos County property tax payment mailed on the Texas A&M campus to reach the tax office.

Because the postmark on the envelope was after the January 31st deadline, county commissioners at this week’s meeting denied the property owner’s request for a refund of $214 dollars in late fees and penalties.

While commissioners were told the property owner mailed the envelope January 27th, county judge Duane Peters says state law requires a postmark no later than the 31st.

According to a letter from the College Station postmaster, the envelope arrived at the tax office on February 11th.
