Brazos Church Pantry Celebrates 30 Years

Seven churches came together in 1986 to form the Brazos Church Pantry and began providing food for needy families in the Brazos Valley.

Today, 30 churches help distribute more than 62,000 pounds of food to more than 1,200 families each month.

Andrea Derrig is one of the 125 volunteers who conduct interviews, sack food, and provide administrative support.

“A lot of times there is a very big misconception that people are getting things that they don’t deserve, but these are people that are so truly in need and they are all under the poverty level,” said Derrig.

The pantry is now celebrating its 30th anniversary with a birthday celebration called “30 for 30”.

“We’re asking people to donate a dollar for each year, so 30 dollars,” said Derrig.

There are three ways you can donate:

  1. Give to your church and designate it to “Church Pantry”
  2. Mail a check to BCP at 304 W. 26th Street, Bryan, TX 77803
  3. Donate online at brazoschurchpantry.org
