Brazos Animal Shelter Opens New Facility & Upcoming Review by CS Council

The Brazos Animal Shelter wasn’t planning to start operating its new facility until July. A massive animal rescue by local authorities on Tuesday changed those plans. The new shelter location on Leonard Road has become home to two dogs, five birds, and 55 cats. Shelter officials are asking for cash contributions to buy supplies to cover the unexpected population increase. Shelter officials say the animals were removed from extremely unsanitary conditions that did not even begin to approach the very lowest humane standards of housing, feeding, and care.

Thursday afternoon, the College Station City Council discusses what the future holds with the Brazos Animal Shelter. This follows the shelter’s decision to move by the end of June to its own facility and stop providing emergency services for the City of Bryan. College Station Mayor Nancy Berry says the shelter has been doing what the city requires.
