The recent arrest of a convenience store clerk accused of illegal sexual contact with a minor did not go unnoticed at the nearby Boys & Girls Club in Bryan.
President Ron Rolett issued a news release to reassure safety of club members is top of mind, regardless of what taking place off-campus.
Rolett also says the local club was recently selected to participate in a national pilot review of all its policies and procedures.
The Boys and Girls Club has 2,000 members in Bryan and College Station.

Regarding the arrest of an employee of a convenience store located near our Bryan Unit, “Yes, this does concern us, but the safety of the young people we serve is top-of-mind every day, regardless of what is going on in the community surrounding our Clubhouses. Our Clubs are community-based, we go where the kids are and work closely with law enforcement, schools and others to ensure the safety of our most precious resource – our future – our children.”
In addition, to the training of staff, we also work with our Club members on how to stay safe – when they walk out our front doors.
Most recently, the Boys & Girls Club of Brazos Valley has been selected to participate in a national pilot developed by some of the leading national child safety experts. It is a GAP analysis that requires a comprehensive review of all policies, procedures, building codes, transportation, et al to ensure we have tightened even the smallest weak link to reduce the risk of danger to any child we serve.
