Bombers Overcome Adversity in a 6-4 Thriller

Bryan-College Station, TX (July 28, 2013)-

The Bombers couldn’t buy a hit early on in the game as the Pump Jacks were snagging balls left and right.

There were numerous opportunities for the Bombers to tack on runs in the early innings, but great defense and pitching from the Pump Jacks ruled the night.  The Jacks quickly took advantage of their great pitching by taking the lead in the 3rd inning off a two RBI by Garrett McMullen.  The pitching duel continued until a two run homerun by Mitch Meyer extended the Jacks lead 4-0 in the 6th inning.  The Bombers were able to get one run back in the bottom half of the inning after G.R. Hinsley reached base on error.  Things still looked dim for the Bombers with more runners in scoring position left on base to end the inning.

The bottom of the 7th inning is where the Bombers showed their true heart.  They quickly advanced two runners in scoring position and were able to drive one run in by Ford Moore, who reached base on error cutting the Jacks lead 4-2.  The bases were quickly loaded until Brett Kauten put the Bombers in the lead off a three RBI double.  G.R. Hinsley quickly added an insurance run with an RBI single to center field, extending the Bombers lead 6-4. There was no looking back as the Bombers were able to hang on to the lead, taking the sweep of the Pump Jacks.  Bryce Rutherford started the game for the Bombers, but despite getting the no decision, pitched a strong game giving up four runs and striking out eight in six innings..  Nick Johnson ended up getting the win with two innings pitched and three strikeouts.  Shay Maltese closed the game out for the Bombers in the 9th, getting the save.

The Bombers face the East Texas Pump Jacks on Tuesday at American Momentum Bank ballpark at 7:05pm, July 30th.
