Bombers Defeat Strykers 4-1 and Maintain Hot Start

Bryan-College Station, TX (June 30, 2013) –

The Brazos Valley Bombers continued their early-season domination of the Texas Collegiate League Sunday night with a 4-1 road victory over the Woodlands Strykers. The win brings the Bombers’ record to 24-4 and continues the best start to a season in team history.

The Strykers were able to get on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. They scored their lone run by tagging off of third base on a sacrifice fly. After the Strykers struck first, it was all Bombers the rest of the way.

The Bombers tied the game in the top of the third inning. Brazos Valley second baseman Miles Manning led off the inning with a single. With Manning on second, first baseman G.R. Hinsley was able to reach base safely on an error. Manning scored on the play to tie the game at 1-1. The Bombers took the lead in the next inning when third baseman Hunter Hagler hit an RBI single to score catcher Jake Henson. The Bombers led 2-1 after four innings.

Brazos Valley added to its lead in the seventh inning when Hinsley singled to score shortstop Matt Eureste. Eureste scored again in the top of the ninth on a fielder’s choice by center fielder Graham McIntyre. That ended the scoring for the night and produced the final margin of 4-1.

Jason Gareri recorded the win while making his first start of the season. Gareri allowed one run on five hits and a walk while striking out three through five innings. Jason Freeman, Nick Johnson and Shay Maltese pitched the final four innings in relief and only allowed one hit and one walk to close out the game.

The Bombers return home to American Momentum Bank Ballpark Tuesday, July 2 at 7:05pm as they face the Texas Marshals.
