Blinn College Trustees Approve Tuition And Fee Hikes To Help Fund Pay Raises For Full Time Faculty

Blinn College’s full time faculty and staff are in line to receive five percent pay raises next year.

Blinn trustees at this month’s meeting approved increasing next year’s tuition by $1 dollar a credit hour and general fees by $3 dollars a credit hour.

According to background information presented to trustees, administrators said the additional revenue from increasing tuition and fees at all campuses…where 98 percent of credit hours are taken by students outside of Washington County…will pay two-thirds of the more than $2 million dollar cost of the pay raises.

The remainder will be picked up by reduced spending in renovations, replacements, and contingencies…along with some of the revenue from increased housing and food service costs for students on the Brenham campus.

In addition to a pay raise for Blinn’s full time employees, the background information given to trustees also indicates 40 faculty members are each getting $400 dollars in longevity pay.

Blinn also plans to increase its share of next year’s health insurance costs by seven percent.

And Blinn is adding $900,000 dollars in unidentified personnel costs for the 2019-2020 academic year.
