The Blinn College board of trustees is getting a new member.
That follows the resignation of one of the board’s seven elected members from Washington County.
Stacy Aschenbeck…who was halfway through her first six year term on the board…cited family reasons for the immediate departure.
The process for filling the vacancy left by the Texas A&M instructional professor was approved by the remaining trustees during a special meeting on Tuesday.
The board will appoint someone to fill the remainder of Aschenbeck’s term, which ends in May of 2021.
Applications will be taken through October 12 at 5 p.m. Those who are interested will have to complete an application packet that is available in the chancellor’s office on the Brenham campus.
Other requirements includes residency in Washington County precinct four and be a registered voter in Washington County.
The board will select the appointee after reviewing all applications.

Another item related to the makeup of the Blinn board was this month’s approval of the college’s priorities for the 2019 legislative session. The document makes no reference to continuing a nine member board past the end of 2021. Three years ago, state lawmakers expanded the board to include two Brazos County members appointed by the Brazos County commission. The terms of the current appointees, former Bryan city councilwoman Ann Horton and Jason Jennings of College Station’s Baylor Scott and White hospital, end in November of next year.
