Two Women Assaulted During Separate Incidents at Bryan Apartment Complex This Weekend

Bryan Police are investigating two assaults that took place at the Brookside Apartments in the 1500 block of East 29th Street over the weekend. A woman reported being attacked around 10:30pm on Saturday night (August 8, 2026). She says she was physically assaulted by an unknown male suspect. The victim sustained minor injuries after being struck in the face and declined medical treatment. Officers received a second call to the complex at approximately 1:18 am on Sunday morning (August 9, 2026). This victim says she was also attacked and physically assaulted by an unknown male suspect. During this assault, the suspect took the woman’s cellphone. She sustained minor injuries after being struck in the face and declined medical treatment. Police believe the attacks are connected. They are searching for the identity of a man caught on video around the time of the attacks. BPD has posted video of the man on their social media accounts. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds, with a thin build. He was reported to be wearing a black ball cap with an orange bandana underneath. The Bryan Police Department understands that incidents of this nature can be concerning, particularly for residents of the apartment community.  Officers have increased their presence in the area and are working with apartment management as the investigation continues.  Residents are encouraged to remain aware of their surroundings and promptly report suspicious activity. Brazos County Court Hands Down 10 Year Prison Sentence After Man Violates Probation

A Brazos County court sentenced a man to 10 years in prison after violating his probation. On Wednesday, Judge John Brick granted the state’s motion to revoke the probation of 51-year-old Ryan Mitchell. In 2021, Mitchell was accused of violating a protective order by repeating calling a College Station woman and leaving threatening messages. After pleading guilty to violating the order, he was placed on probation. In June 2025, Mitchell was trespassing at an Austin-area convenient store. When Austin Police attempted to make contact, Mitchell fled the scene. He later exited his vehicle and approached officers while holding a hammer. Mitchell was then arrested for Aggravated Assault of a Public Servant. After hearing the evidence from Austin PD, College Station PD, and Mitchell’s probation officer, Judge Brick sentenced Mitchell to the maximum punishment of 10 years in prison. Assistant District Attorney Abigail Goodman says, “We are lucky to live in a community where police officers willingly jump into action to protect us. Judge Brick’s sentence sends the message that Brazos County will serve justice when officers are threatened with harm.”

Burn Ban Enacted in Robertson County

The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office took to Facebook today (Monday, August 10, 2026) to announce that a burn ban has been enacted for the county. Effective immediately, all outdoor burning will be prohibited. Robertson County now becomes the second county in the Brazos Valley to institute a burn ban after Madison County announced one last week.
