Birth Center Receives Preliminary Approval From Bryan Council

A request to rezone property in Bryan to open a birth center was unanimously endorsed by the planning commission. But neighborhood opposition was raised at Tuesday’s city council meeting.

Monte Kimpel of Brenham, who wants to locate the center in the former Scotty’s House office on Coulter, has spoken with those who are opposed to the rezoning but not to their business.

Comments from Monte Kimpel.

Neighbors who were opposed to rezoning were fine with granting a conditional use permit, but that is not allowed for medical businesses in Bryan.

Councilman Mike Southerland’s decision to support opposing property owners drew a response from Chuck Konderla.

Comments from Mike Southerland and Chuck Konderla.

Final action by the city council is scheduled for Tuesday, December 13th.
