Bill Byrne’s Contract Included in This Week’s Regents Agenda

Last week, the Athletic Director at Texas A&M University wrote he he was looking foward to life after athletics. That transition is part of the business when the A&M Board of Regents meets later this week.

Bill Byrne’s current contract runs through August 31, 2013. Byrne wrote he looks forward to announcing, with the support of President Bowen Loftin, his next steps. That could come before the end of this week.

Thursday morning, the regents behind closed doors in executive session will discuss a request giving Dr. Loftin the authority to execute an agreement with Byrne. A vote is part of the regents agenda Friday morning.

Authorization for the President to Negotiate and Execute an Agreement Regarding Employment with Mr. Bill Byrne, Texas A&M University comes from page 3 of the Board of Regents meeting schedule.

From Bill Byrne’s Wednesday Weekly column on aggieathletics.com:

“I’m hearing from a few of you who were surprised to learn last Friday I was at a point of transition from my role as Athletic Director at Texas A&M. President Loftin announced it after a workshop on conference realignment last Friday in The Zone Club. As I enter the last period of my contract, President Loftin and I continue to work together to continue the tradition of excellence of Aggie Athletics. I’ve been looking forward to my life after athletics. I will be right there with all of you rooting for our teams and watching Texas A&M strive for championships. This is a wonderful time at Texas A&M and I look forward to announcing, with President Loftin’s support, my next steps.”
