News release from Baylor Scott & White:
Baylor Scott & White is expanding surgical services in the Brazos Valley to meet a growing need. A new, dedicated outpatient surgical center at the Baylor Scott & White Medical Plaza 900 – College Station is opening with capacity to serve more than 100 additional patients each month.
“As a not-for-profit health system, we reinvest surpluses into the communities we serve, and this new outpatient surgical center represents our commitment to growing alongside our community,” said Jason Jennings, regional president of Baylor Scott & White – College Station. “Every floor of the Plaza was intentionally designed to provide patients with safe, efficient and high-quality care close to home. This new surgical center will serve patients who need surgery, but don’t require an overnight stay in the hospital.”
The number of patients cared for across Baylor Scott & White hospitals and clinics has increased by nearly 30% in the last five years.
Seth Sullivan, MD, who serves as Baylor Scott & White – College Station regional chief medical officer, said he’s most excited about utilizing the space to provide surgical care closer to home for the Brazos Valley community.
“Recovering from surgery is both easier and has better health outcomes when near your support system – your family and your friends,” Sullivan said.
Patients needing day surgery from specialists in ophthalmology, ENT, plastics and podiatry can be cared for in the new surgery center. As Baylor Scott & White continues to grow with the community, they aim to increase surgical capacity in other service lines as well.
“The expansion of services in outpatient surgery at the Plaza will allow us to expand neurosurgery offerings in the hospital’s surgery center as well,” Jennings said.
Baylor Scott & White will welcome the first surgical patients to the Plaza on Monday, June 9.
“This isn’t just about healthcare – it’s about giving our community the power to live well by getting back to their lives faster and safer,” Sullivan said. “This expansion of services is about making high-quality care more accessible, more personal and more convenient for the people who call this area home.”
