‘Bathtub Killer’ Executed

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) _ Texas has executed a Louisiana man for strangling a suburban Dallas woman and leaving her body in a bathtub in her home.

Dale Devon Scheanette, who became known as the “Bathtub Killer,” was pronounced dead last night at 6:21 p.m.

In addition to the Christmas Eve 1996 death of 22-year-old Wendie Prescott, Scheanette was charged but not tried in the death of 25-year-old Christine Vu three months earlier. He also was blamed for the rapes of at least five other women.

Scheanette, 35, was the seventh condemned inmate executed in Texas this year and the first of two set to die this week.

The U.S. Supreme Court refused to stop the execution.
