Texas A&M System Board Of Regents Approve A New Capital Projects Plan That Includes An $80 Million Dollar Renovation Of Blue Bell Park

The Texas A&M system board of regents on Tuesday (May 7) approved a new five year capital projects plan that includes an $80 million dollar renovation of the home of Texas A&M baseball. System documents say the first renovations of Blue Bell Park since its opening in 2012, is scheduled to start during the 2025-26 fiscal year. The documents also say the cost will be paid by stadium revenue funds. There were no comments by board members or university officials to anything in the new plan during Tuesday’s business meeting or Monday’s meeting of the regents building committee. Texas A&M has eight capital projects slated for the 2024-25 fiscal year, totaling almost $301 million dollars. The most expensive is the $250 million dollar Aplin Center for hospitality, retail studies, and food product development. Also on the list for the 2024-25 fiscal year is an expansion of Penberthy Road and the addition of a multi use path, various parking garage improvements, an addition at the veterinary teaching and research complex, an addition to A&M’s railroad quiet zone, replacing the heating and air conditioning at Hart residence hall, and replacing showers and upgrading fire alarms at Underwood residence hall. The list for the 2026-27 academic year includes a $295 million dollar building for A&M’s school of performance, visualization, and fine arts. And A&M has for the 2027-28 school year, an undefined entrepreneurship building with a planning budget of $65 million dollars.

Brazos County Tax Office Upgrading Property Tax Software Means No Property Tax Services On Wednesday

Brazos County property owners will not be able to conduct business at the tax office on Wednesday, May 8. Tax assessor-collector Kristy Roe says they are making a change in computer software which will not allow them to access any property tax records. Property owners requiring assistance have to contact the tax office Tuesday (May 7) or Thursday (May 9). This does not affect motor vehicle services, only property tax records. Residents and property owners who have business or questions regarding their property taxes should plan to take care of that before or after that date since the staff will not be able to access any property tax records on that day. This process will not impact the motor vehicle services provided by the office.

College Station City Council Awards Contract To Design And Build More Water Wells

College Station city council members take the first step towards adding more capacity to the city’s water supply. A more than $8 million dollar contract was awarded at the council’s April 25th meeting to design and build the city’s 10th, 11th, and 12th water wells in western Brazos County. Water services director Gary Mechler said the new wells should take care of College Station’s water needs through the year 2046. Mechler also said the future wells are in addition to decisions made the last five years to build the ninth well and lower the pumps to older wells to draw water from an aquifer that has been going down due to increased demand. The wells will be built on land the city purchased ten years ago south of Lake Bryan and west of OSR highway. In response to a council question, city manager Bryan Woods said no development will take place above ground on the 321 acres of land where the wells will be built.
