AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ A man killed by police after stabbing an officer has been identified as one of the suspects in Austin’s infamous 1991 slaying of four teens at a yogurt shop.
Senior police officer Dennis Ferris says Maurice Pierce was fatally shot during an altercation Thursday night following a traffic stop.
Pierce was one of four suspects in the yogurt shop case but had murder charges against him dismissed due to lack of evidence in 2003.
On Thursday, Officer Frank Wilson attempted to pull a car being driven by Pierce over after he ran a stop sign.
Pierce then fled on foot and during a subsequent fight, grabbed Wilson’s duty belt knife and stabbed him in the neck.
Wilson fired one round, killing Pierce.
