Austin Balcony Collapse Injures 23

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ The second-floor balcony of an Austin condominium collapsed during a party, sending 23 people to the hospital.

The collapse happened about 4:15 a.m. Sunday at the Garden Court Condominiums, about 4 miles southeast of downtown Austin.

Fire Lt. Randy Elmore says about 30 people were on the balcony when it collapsed. He said 23 people were taken to University Medical Center-Brackenridge with injuries ranging from minor scratches to bone fractures. None of the injuries appeared to belife-threatening.

Hospital spokeswoman Lauren Picarello says all but five of the patients had been discharged as of early Sunday afternoon.
