AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ A judge on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has paid a disputed 2008 speeding ticket and a warrant for his arrest has been dropped.
The Austin American-Statesman reports Judge Lawrence Meyers on Thursday paid nearly $536 online. The newspaper earlier reported on the lingering dispute over the municipal citation for driving 19 mph over the speed limit on Interstate 35.
Meyers originally pleaded not guilty but says he missed an Austin court appearance because he wasn’t informed of the date. He pleaded no contest in 2010, but says he did not pay the $193 fine to preserve his right to appeal.
Meyers pleaded guilty Aug. 8 and had two months to pay the fine, including court costs and fees. A judge on Oct. 20 issued the warrant.
