A man from suburban Fort Worth is arrested for buying a $101,000 dollar Corvette from a College Station dealership using an altered drivers license.

The dealership reported the theft by deception to College Station police in March 2023. That was four days after the 2023 Corvette was delivered in the city of Burleson.

The CSPD arrest report said the dealership learned of the deception by a 65 year old who was contacted by a credit monitoring company that his information was used to apply for a car loan.

The 65 year old sent the dealership a copy of his drivers license, which shows he is a White man. The drivers license the suspect provided to the dealership had a photo of a Black man, but containing the 65 year old’s name, date of birth, and address. The suspect also provided the social security number of the 65 year old in his online loan application.

A CSPD detective was assisted by the Tarrant Regional Auto Crimes Task Force in identifying the suspect. A a task force investigator contacted the suspect, who said that the Corvette was in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Fort Worth, which is where the car was recovered.

That led to the arrest of 62 year old Jeffrey Simpson of Burleson on CSPD charges of felony theft and fraudulent use of identifying information.

As of March 11, Simpson remains in the Brazos County jail on the CSPD charges as well as warrants on similar charges in Grayson and Lamar counties, which are located along the Oklahoma border.

Bonds on all charges totals $185,000 dollars.
