FORT BLISS, Texas (AP) _ Army Secretary John McHugh says he’s working closely with the Army and the secretary of defense to figure out what led to a mass shooting at Fort Hood earlier this month and what can be done to prevent it from happening again.
McHugh, who was touring Fort Bliss just outside El Paso Tuesday, said a broad review will be largely focused on preventing another incident like the one at Fort Hood, where alleged gunman Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan is accused of shooting to death 13 people and wounding another 34.
McHugh said Army officials also are continuing to improve mental health services for soldiers. He said the Army faces mental health shortages just like any other community, but is making improvements.
