FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) _ An Army investigator has told a military court that Maj. Nidal Hasan had nearly 200 rounds of ammunition and a second gun in his pockets when he was shot by police during a deadly rampage at Fort Hood last year.
The investigator testified that Hasan had already fired nearly 150 rounds from a semiautomatic weapon inside a crowded medical building, before police brought him down.
One of the civilian police officers who helped end the rampage says he saw the gunman outside the building and then noticed the red laser sight from his weapon pointing at him. Sgt. Mark Todd says after he ordered Hasan to drop his weapon, the two exchanged fire and Hasan fell.
The Army psychiatrist is now paralyzed from the chest down.
The military hearing will determine whether Hasan will stand trial in the shootings. He’s charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder.
